At 3:15 p.m. Newfie time (clocks were ½ hour ahead) the ferry arrived at Porte Aux Basques in deep fog. We drove to the Visitor Center and then decided we'd make our first detour 30 miles east along the south coast, following Rte 470 to its end at the village of Rose Blanche.

We found a place to park Clemmie and walked around the village, steep narrow one-way roads. Outports east of Rose Blanche can only be reached by boat - most have been resettled on the main island. Not always happily so.
