This was our first view of Ketchikan's waterfront. Cruise ships dominate, as you can see. These two reminded us of a couple of sharks having a conversation about how best to gobble up the town.

The cruise ship industry has grown immensely in the 15 years since we started making annual visits to southeast Alaska. It's a love-hate thing: while they bring in dollars to the economy, cruise ships bring significant pollution (air and water) as well as jammed downtown streets.
